Phi Gamma Delta prides itself on developing college men into productive leaders. The chapter environment has proven to be a real-life teaching ground for many of today's leaders. .
Additionally, research on membership in Greek organizations reveals many other positive outcomes:
-Higher graduation rate
-Greater campus involvement and engagement
-A more positive view of the college experience
-Greater financial support to alma mater
-Greater personal development
To increase the likelihood that our members will enjoy these benefits, Phi Gamma Delta offers many formal and informal opportunities for our members to develop their mind, body, and spirit.
Alcohol abuse among college students has reached an epidemic scale. Through programming we inform and seek to influence our members on a personal and social level to curb the effects of high-risk alcohol use. Our commitment to alcohol education and risk management makes Phi Gamma Delta a leader in promoting healthy decisions.
Phi Gamma Delta’s comprehensive alcohol program addresses alcohol issues from three angles: the chapter house environment, risk management of chapter events, and educating the individual brother on the effects of alcohol. The primary purpose of the program is to give brothers and chapters the information and knowledge that they need to make good decisions about the use of alcohol.
Phi Gamma Delta promotes the pursuit of knowledge, believing that it is the key to a fuller, richer life. Phi Gamma Delta offers academic support services to our chapters, and the Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation awards thousands of dollars through scholarships and fellowships. Recently, our chapter was applauded by the University's Inter-Fraternity Council for having the highest GPA on grounds.
The Fraternity provides members with leadership development opportunities on every level — on a daily basis through involvement in chapter operations, through training programs created in collaboration with Ken Blanchard (Cornell 1961), and at regional and international meetings and conventions.
Phi Gamma Delta has partnered with Dr. Ken Blanchard (Cornell 1961) to create a leadership development program custom-designed for our fraternity and our members. This program, called Taking the Lead, is based on nearly 35 years of research on situational leadership. Taking the Lead is a series of educational modules that are available to our members and chapters to help them achieve success in fraternity, college, career and life endeavors.
Phi Gamma Delta encourages service by all our members. We have the ability, the opportunity, and the duty to serve our fellow human beings. Our chapter has contributed over $170,000 since 2003 and countless hours to charities located in Charlottesville and to our chapter's primary charity, the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research. In fact, our chapter has won the "Best Philanthropy" award 3 out of the past 4 years. .
